Our work is directed towards the interconnection of food justice, climate justice and economic justice in promoting adequate living. These include utilizing legal tools to ensure realization of land rights, food security and nutrition, livelihood rights, environmental health and rights. Therefore, CEFROHT’s efforts are targeted towards a sustainable food system, environmental health, nutrition and economic rights which affect the vulnerable populations such as women, children, orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS, persons with disabilities, and the youth
Our work is directed towards the interconnection of food justice, climate justice and economic justice promoting adequate living. These include utilizing legal tools to ensure realization of land rights, food security and nutrition, livelihood rights, environmental health and rights.
The world is currently facing an unprecedented food crisis. According to FAO, in an ideal world, agri-food systems would be resilient, inclusive and sustainable, producing sufficient, safe and nutritious food for all, and generating livelihoods that guarantee people’s economic access to that food.
Breastfeeding is a universally recognized component of a child’s right to life, the right to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health and adequate food as it contains. The WHO and UNICEF recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life and an introduction of nutritionally- adequate and safe complementary foods at 6 months together with continued breastfeeding of up to 2 years of age or beyond. Uganda’s legal framework however, is not explicit on exclusive breastfeeding in both formal and informal workplaces.
CEFROHT implements a Community Justice Program (CJP) to promote access to justice through legal empowerment, social accountability and human rights based approaches as critical pathways for sustainable access to justice for the poor, vulnerable and marginalized individuals and communities in the districts of Buyende, Kyankwanzi and Kiboga so far.
The Center for Food and Adequate Living Rights collaborates with the Uganda Parliamentary Alliance on Food and Nutrition Security to organize the Parliamentary Nutrition Week that happens every year. The event takes place at Parliament of Uganda and it is aimed at sensitizing members of Parliament on their role in promoting regulatory and fiscal measures for promoting healthy diets and physical activity to prevent NCDs in Uganda
To promote social justice in food, agriculture and investment systems through strategic litigation, research, advocacy and community empowerment.
Under this program, CEFROHT uses litigation and legal research as tools to promote and protect the right to adequate food, climate and economic justice. The program does legal and policy analysis of food, environment and livelihood issues.
Under this program, CEFROHT does action research to build evidence for advocacy on issues of food safety and health. The research is published and disseminated to communities and duty bearers for action. CEFROHT does legal and policy scrutiny of government ventures using a human..
This program is delivered through a Legal Empowerment and Social Accountability approach using the right to participation methodologies. Under this program, CEFROHT trains communities and local governments about their entitlements, and obligations.
CEFROHT shares news, alerts, policy briefs, studies, and reports made by our team of experts and partners. On a monthly basis we publish a newsletter highlighting our different interventions and upcoming events.
