COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT AND CAPACITY BUILDING

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

To legally empower communities and duty bearers and build their capacities in economic, food, nutrition, and health well-being rights.

Under this program, CEFROHT engages communities and the duty bearers at all levels including the judiciary, and trains them on the right to economic, food, nutrition, and health well-being, and social accountability approaches.

It also engages communities in advocacy for their rights.  And also empower communities in agriculture and appropriate technologies for food and nutrition security.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

During the Country-wide lockdown due t COVID-19, CEFROHT with support from AVAAZ foundation reached out to the vulnerable people in communities and supplied them with food relief items utilizing the local council leadership to identify individuals who were experiencing acute hunger in their jurisdiction. full activity here…
CEFROHT trains small scale farmers to demand their rights and provides legal services in the trade and commercialization of their produce. This legal intervention is pro-bono as many of them can not afford lawyers in case they have suffered any breach, violation or if there is a failure on part of the duty bearers. full activity here…
CEFROHT is implementing nutrition and urban farming project. This is through training women in food security, nutrition, and the right to adequate food. Women are trained on how to engage and dialogue with local leaders for the right to adequate food through public participation for inputs and community mobilization. full activity here…
Although CEFROHT is a national organization, specific districts have specific requirements. CEFROHT concluded a Memorandum of understanding with the districts of Kiboga and Kyankwanzi to partner in food security and nutrition. They allowed CEFROHT to mobilize and form Community food and agriculture Advocates. These are allowed into local government councils as a small scale farmers’ voice. full activity here…
Nutrition has partnered with other organizations and partners to implement community nutrition through growing soya beans for food security and economic independence for the community members and carries out hospital nutrition dialogues to promote nutrition services in hospitals full activity here…
Justice: CEFROHT has continued to offer legal services to communities and persons who have suffered injustice like illegal detention during COVID-19. CEFROHT has since made an intervention and helped 20 women and men and are now reunited with their families. With support from AIDS Healthcare Fund, CEFROHT is implementing a COVID-19 Emergency support project. Under this intervention, CEFROHT has reached out to 400 vulnerable persons living with HIV/TB. full activity here…
